Laura Mercier原本是一位畫家，她17岁時就入巴黎的繪畫學校學習绘畫，但慢慢地她的興趣逐漸轉到面部肌肤的色彩，她最後拿到巴黎有名的Carita School的專業彩妝設計文憑，畢業後她成為專業的彩化妝師同時在學校里面擔任彩妝指導，同時很長一段時間密切地跟随在法国有名的彩妝師：Thibault Vabre身方旁工作。
1985年她被邀请加入ELLE magazine, 志在美國發刊的專業彩妝team，也搬家到纽约，很快地她在彩妝界的名聲快速窜升，她也和許多流行產業界知名的攝影師建立交情，像替 Vogue、 Harper's、Bazaar、Marie Claire等magazines攝影的Patrick Demarchelier以及Steven Meisel 等人。Laura Mercier自己也不斷精進。
1996年Laura Mercier首次發表以她為名的彩妝產品，她希望可以提供给女性一个体验完全美麗的全系列彩妝及保保養品系列，產品為应该要能完全發揮女性美麗的潛在力量！
